Non Fiction

In June 2005 Ground Engineering Magazine kindly agreed to publish Alan's article about the current guidance on Water Supply Pipes in Contaminated Land, issued by the Water Regulations Advisory Scheme. The acceptance of this article for publication as a 'Talking Point' one-off column, further fuelled Alan's interest in writing and opened up his career in Ground Investigation as a basis for non fiction contributions to Ground Engineering, an industry magazine.

Letters to the Editor

During Spring 2006 some recurring questions kept appearing in the letters page of NCE. Alan's curiosity got the better of him and he spent some time composing responses to the questions. The letters are included in the NCE online archive and will be available via the link below once the A-Z of authors is fully compiled by NCE.

The letters are entitled 'Water Tight' (19th July 2006) and
'Root Problem' (26th July 2006).

'Planet's future in our hands' (6th Sept 2006) is a response to another of Alan's letters which had been included earlier but is not available in the archive yet.

Ground Engineering Magazine (GE)

2006 to 2008

The success of the 'Talking Point' article encouraged Alan and he subsequently pulled together another article entitled 'Give Us The Facts', which included contributions from his Soil Consultants' colleagues Jon Morris, Stuart Wagstaff and Hannah Azzopardi. The article appeared in the March 2007 issue of GE.

Later in 2007, Alan prepared another article about the influence of groundwater, which was published in the October 2007 issue of GE under the title 'Moving Target'.

In June 2008 Alan added to his collection of articles & letters with a brief summary of the current position on the cost of barrier pipe installation and MDPE, representing an update on his earlier 'Talking Point' of July 2006.

Extensive investigations into Chalk Hazards in Buckinghamshire gave Alan the opportunity to prepare an article briefly summarising certain aspects of Chalk Hazard Risk Assessment.  This article was published in the September 2008 edition of GE.

NCE are currently compiling an Author Index online and the Talking Point article can already be viewed via that route by following the link below.
